How to clean leather furniture

Leather furniture is lovely and durable, but many owners aren't sure how to care for their leather seating. Luckily, less can be so much more with leather.


Dusting

 Use a dry microfiber cloth or the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to dust your leather seating weekly. Leather furniture and dust don't mix, so don't miss a week.

 Spills

 Instead of wiping up spills, try a more gentle blotting technique. Use a clean white cloth to sop up spills on your leather furniture, but make sure it's done quickly. Rubbing spills into the leather can let the leather absorb more of the liquid than simple blotting.

 Stains

 The best bet for removing stains on leather is a white cloth lightly wet with lukewarm water. Never hasten the drying process with a fan or hair dryer. Just allow the leather to air dry.

 Resistant Stains

 For resistant stains like ink, sometimes the best bet is to contact a professional. Often the treatments to try to remove ink can damage the leather even further.

 Commercial Leather Cleaner

 There is a time and place for a professional cleaning, either by a company or by the owner using a professional leather cleaning. Depending on how much use your leather furniture gets, this professional cleaning may need to happen every 4-6 months.
